With all the devastation, the beauty, the confusion, all the acts of god, acts of men, which surround us daily, we sure need it.
Inspired by this notion, Colin Taylor AKA The Unsinkable Boxer, narrates the story and brings to life The Unsinkable Boxer as fictional character through the songs.
He is a performing boxing clown touring the carnival circuit having enjoyed success and popularity over the years. Advertised and lauded as a wonder of the circus, he has been the main attraction in many a town from east to west. He has risen to the top, fallen from grace, and risen once again.
Troubled by lack of confidence and self belief, he represents the artist and entertainer in all of us. But the show must go on. He will live to fight another day.
He is an inspiration to all of us.
And so it was that we found ourselves in a cold, uninviting and peeling amateur boxing club in Glasgow to shoot the 'story' of The Unsinkable Boxer as beautifully conceptualised by the very talented designer Roderick Wyllie. The surreal imagery matches the music, adding a touch of faded grandeur as the 'Holy Trinity' play out their act.
The three characters - The Unnsinkable Boxer, the preacher, and the girl, weave their way in and out of the universal themes of love, loss, temptation, redemption, hopelessness, but ultimately hope, in a series of unrelated stories. They tempt and tease out the big questions and through music they help each other navigate their way around the trials and tribulations of this sad, yet beautiful world.
